Phytosulfokine-α is a peptide that belongs to the group of activator proteins. It is a potent inhibitor of ion channels, which are membrane proteins that allow ions to pass through and regulate the electrical properties of cells. Phytosulfokine-α inhibits ligand binding to its receptor by blocking the receptor's active site. This inhibition prevents available ligands from binding and activating the receptor, thereby preventing downstream signaling events. Phytosulfokine-α has been shown to inhibit high-voltage activated potassium channels (Kv1.2) in rat cortical neurons in vitro, as well as has been shown to inhibit K+ current in cultured rat hippocampal neurons.
Phytosulfokine-α is an antibody that can recognize and bind to peptides in cell cultures or tissue samples, making it useful for research or diagnostic purposes.
