Product Information
Eluxadoline is a δ-opioid receptor agonist that has been shown to have contractile properties and is used as a pharmaceutical treatment for bowel disease. Eluxadoline is an analog of the endogenous fatty acid, eluxadoline, which consists of two aliphatic chains with the chemical formula C24H36O2. It binds to and activates δ-opioid receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby inhibiting intestinal motility and reducing abdominal pain. The drug also has a therapeutic effect on symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Eluxadoline acts as an antagonist at other opioid receptors in the body. The drug's effects are dose-dependent, meaning that higher doses will result in greater efficacy.
Eluxadoline has not been shown to be effective against organic acids or diagnostic agents that cause diarrhea.
