KI-7 is a biochemical compound that belongs to the class of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. It is used in research for its inhibitory properties on 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A receptors, and as a potential drug for the treatment of depression. KI-7 also has inhibitory properties on α subunits of PDEs, which are enzymes that break down cyclic nucleotides such as cAMP and cGMP. The reaction mechanism of KI-7 is not well understood but it is thought to be due to competitive inhibition of the enzyme by binding to the active site. KI-7 has low potency and slow onset, but high selectivity for PDEs.

KI-7 binds to the p2y receptor with high affinity and acts as an agonist by promoting chloride ion efflux from cells, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation. This compound also inhibits protein synthesis by inhibiting enzyme activities such as
