Complement component C1q is a monoclonal protein that is present in the immune system. It has a molecular weight of about 410 kDa and consists of two polypeptide chains, alpha and beta. The alpha chain contains three types of domains: an N-terminal globular domain, a beta-pleated sheet domain, and an immunoglobulin-like domain. The beta chain contains an immunoglobulin-like domain with four loops and an immunoglobulin (Ig)-like V region. Complement component C1q has antigen-binding activity and can bind to various antigens including erythrocytes, platelets, bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.
