It has shown a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi, as well as antiviral properties. Silthiofam-des(trimethylsilyl) is a potent inhibitor of DNA synthesis in viruses and bacteria. It is active against protozoan parasites such as Plasmodium falciparum (malaria), Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas disease), Entamoeba histolytica (amebiasis), Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis), and Giardia lamblia (giardiasis).
