Geniposide, also known as notoginseng geniposide, is a natural product derived from the roots of notoginseng (Radix Notoginseng). It has been shown to have anti-allergic effects and an antifibrotic effect in animal studies. Geniposide has also been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), which are involved in inflammation. Geniposide binds to response elements on DNA and inhibits the transcription of specific genes. Geniposide also inhibits protein kinase C (PKC) activity by binding to PKC and stabilizing it, which reduces the synthesis of collagen type I.
