Letrozole is a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor that is used to treat postmenopausal women with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. Letrozole has been shown to be effective in the treatment of resistant breast cancer. Letrozole is metabolized by glucuronide conjugation, which may result in drug interactions with drugs that are substrates or inhibitors of the enzymes involved in this process. Letrozole can also cause side effects such as metabolic disorders, hepatic impairment, and weight gain. It should not be prescribed for patients with body mass index greater than 30 kg/m2 or her2+ breast cancer.
