Peraksine is a synthetic oxindole alkaloid that inhibits the biosynthesis of indole alkaloids in plants. Peraksine blocks the conversion of normacusin to hexacyclic indole alkaloids, which are biologically active compounds, by binding to the enzyme that catalyzes this reaction. The molecular modeling study of peraksine revealed chlorine atoms that are involved in binding to the enzyme. The results of a tissue culture study on leukemia cells showed that peraksine has a cytotoxic effect and can be used as an anticancer drug.
