L-threo-Dihydrosphingosine is a sphingoid that belongs to the group of sphingolipids. It is formed from the phosphorylation of dihydrosphingosine and can be found in neurons, liver cells, and platelets. This compound has been shown to inhibit apoptosis induced by ceramide, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide. L-threo-Dihydrosphingosine also inhibits cancer cell growth by downregulating cyclin D1 and p53 expression.
