Description:FPL 55712 is a potent and selective inhibitor of the contractile activity of detrusor smooth muscle. It acts as a pure, competitive antagonist of the alpha-1 adrenergic receptor in the bladder. This drug has been shown to inhibit bronchial reactivity in an experimental model and to reduce the risk of postoperative pulmonary complications after surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia. FPL 55712 also inhibits cardiac contractility and lowers systolic blood pressure in rats. The compound has been shown to be a potent antagonist of polymorphonuclear leucocytes, which may be related to its anti-inflammatory properties.
