Avermectin a1b is an analog of avermectin, a natural product derived from the soil bacteria Streptomyces avermitilis. It has been found to be an effective inhibitor of cancer cell growth and proliferation in various human cancer cell lines. Avermectin a1b works by inhibiting kinases that are involved in cancer cell signaling pathways, leading to apoptosis (programmed cell death) of cancer cells. In addition, it has been shown to have anticancer activity against Chinese hamster ovary cells and inhibit elastase activity in urine. While not approved for use in humans as an anticancer drug, research on avermectin a1b is ongoing and may lead to the development of new treatments for cancer patients.
