D-Erythro-sphingosyl phosphoethanolamine can be used to activate soluble enzymes, such as murine erythropoietin (mEPO), and induce the maturation of liposomes, which are used in the delivery of drugs. It can also be used as a fluorophore to study the movement of membrane proteins.
