Product Information
2-Isopropoxybenzonitrile is a dealkylating agent that is used to synthesize 2-cyanophenol from 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde. This chemical reaction proceeds via the following mechanism:
2-Isopropoxybenzonitrile reacts with 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde to form an imine intermediate. The imine is hydrolyzed by water, forming 2-isopropoxybenzoic acid and hydrogen cyanide. The hydrogen cyanide then reacts with oxygen, forming water and carbon dioxide. Finally, the imine undergoes ring closure to form 2-cyanophenol.
