Ginsenoside Ra3 is a saponin that has been extracted from the roots of Panax ginseng. It has been shown to have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of reactive oxygen species, as well as its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Ginsenoside Ra3 has also been shown to have chemopreventive effects in colon cancer cells, by reducing the amount of DNA damage caused by ischemia reperfusion. Ginsenoside Ra3 is also able to reduce bacterial colonization in the large intestine and prevent inflammation induced by chinese medicinal herbs such as zingibroside R1.
