Soyacerebroside II is a natural lipid molecule that belongs to the group of glucosylceramides. It is an endogenous compound found in the brain and other tissues. Soyacerebroside II contains one glucose moiety attached to a ceramide backbone, which is a type of sphingolipid. The enantiomer structure of soyacerebroside II has been synthesized in the laboratory, but it also occurs naturally in apples, almonds and apricots. Soyacerebroside II can be extracted from these foods by using ethanol as the solvent. This compound has been shown to have hair growth-promoting effects when applied topically to mice with alopecia induced by chemotherapy drugs or radiation therapy.
