2-Methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-carboxylic acid is the major urinary metabolite of bifenthrin. The acidic hydrolysis of 2-methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-carboxylic acid was studied in human urine samples. The analytical method for this metabolite has been developed and validated by GC/MS and LC/MS techniques. It has a high detection limit (0.5 ng/mL) and good precision (RSD 3%). 2-Methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-carboxylic acid can be detected in urine samples from termites that were treated with pyrethroid insecticides.
