Cudratricusxanthone A is a natural compound that inhibits the growth of cholera bacteria by inhibiting the toxin production. It has been shown to inhibit vibrio cholerae and vibrio, which are a type of bacteria that can cause disease. Cudratricusxanthone A binds to the enzyme protein-sugar phosphotransferase (PTS) and blocks its activity, preventing the uptake of sugar from the cell's external environment. The inhibition of PTS leads to an accumulation of sugars in the bacterial membrane, which inhibits toxin production. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties, as it inhibits prostaglandin synthesis through inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and COX-2 enzymes.
