2-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)ethanethioamide is a heterocyclic derivative that has a benzothiazole ring and an ethanethioamide side chain. It is synthesized through a condensation of piperidinium with pyridine and then hydrogenated to give the desired product. 2-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)ethanethioamide has shown to possess antiulcerogenic activity in rats and mice. This compound also inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens, Bacillus cereus, and Enterococcus faecalis. 2-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)ethanethioamide is also known to have coumarin as its metabolite.
