It has a ring structure with a carbonyl group and an aromatic ring system. 6-(4-Chlorophenyl)thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-one inhibits the production of cyclic nucleotides such as cAMP and cGMP, which are involved in the regulation of many cellular processes such as blood pressure. This inhibition leads to the reduction of heart rate and lowering blood pressure. 6-(4-Chlorophenyl)thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-one also has neuroinflammatory properties that may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
