N-Methyl-4-(methylamino)picolinamide is a drug that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of metabolic disorders. It is a first generation catecholamine synthesis inhibitor, which prevents the conversion of tyrosine to dopa and dopa to dopamine. Studies have shown that chronic exposure to this drug leads to congestive heart failure and an increased risk of cancer. The drug also has been shown to activate progenitor cells and stimulate lymphocyte surface receptors, leading to improved prognosis for cancer patients. N-Methyl-4-(methylamino)picolinamide has been used in cancer diagnosis as well as a treatment for pancreatic tissues, blood pressure, and chronic diseases such as diabetes. This drug is toxic at high doses, with side effects including liver damage, weight gain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia and hallucinations.
