Product Information

Name:
SP187
Description:

SP187 is a peptidomimetic that inhibits the activity of glutamate dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of glutamate to α-ketoglutarate. SP187 has been shown to be effective in visually distinguishing between strains of bacteria, such as E. coli and Salmonella enterica, which have different levels of glutamate dehydrogenase activity. This inhibitor is also able to distinguish between species with similar levels of this enzyme activity, such as Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria innocua. SP187 has been shown to reduce the growth rate of both host and non-host strains of bacteria by inducing osmotic stress. These findings suggest that SP187 may be useful for diagnosing bacterial infections in animals and humans.
