Decane-2,9-dione is a ketone that is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It can be used to synthesize terminal alkyne compounds. Decane-2,9-dione also has the ability to react with chloride or hydration to form methoxymethylene chloride or methyl ketones. Decane-2,9-dione can also be used as a catalyst for various reactions including the transfer of rhodium and benzene. The nature of this compound is not known but it is speculated that it may be a natural product from catalysis by ruthenium and rhodium.
