8-Hydroxy-6-nitroquinoline is the nitro derivative of 8-hydroxyquinoline. It has anomalous properties which include intramolecular hydrogen bonding, protonation and deprotonation, and anomalously high triplet energies. The uncharged form of 8-hydroxy-6-nitroquinoline has a phenolic character and can be used as a dienophile in Diels-Alder reactions. Nitration of this compound leads to the formation of aniline derivatives with nitro groups at positions 2, 3, or 4. The constants for 8-hydoxy-6-nitroquinoline are:
