Product Information
Basic Violet 3 D6 (BV3D6) is a synthetic compound that has been used as an antibiotic and antiviral. It is a member of the family of compounds called phenothiazines and was originally developed for use in chemotherapy. BV3D6 has been shown to be effective against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Basic Violet 3 D6 inhibits the growth of microorganisms by preventing their DNA from replicating. This drug binds to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and prevents protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. Basic Violet 3 D6 also has antiviral properties that are due to its inhibition of reverse transcriptase activity in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1).
