Lipiferolide is a sesquiterpene lactone that was isolated from the plant Camptotheca acuminata. It has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in bladder cancer cells by binding to the ribosomal protein S6 kinase (S6K). Lipiferolide also inhibits myelogenous leukemia cell proliferation and other cancers. It may be a potential therapeutic agent for cancer. Lipiferolide is currently under investigation as a possible treatment for myeloid leukemia, and it has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in bladder cancer cells by binding to the ribosomal protein S6 kinase (S6K). The biological activity of this compound is due to its ability to bind with high affinity and specificity to the ribosomal protein S6 kinase (S6K) which is involved in regulating cell growth and proliferation. Lipiferolide also inhibits myelogenous leukemia cell proliferation, suggesting that it may be a potential therapeutic agent for cancer.
