Dihydrophaseic acid is a fatty acid that is found in the blood of fetal bovine. It has been shown to be produced from dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid by a 3t3-l1 preadipocyte cell line and can stimulate axonal growth in vitro. Dihydrophaseic acid is also a polyunsaturated fatty acid, which can be esterified with glycerol to produce a triglyceride. Dihydrophaseic acid can also be synthesized from linoleic acid by rat liver cells, which is important for its role as an essential nutrient.
