Tolimidone is an enzyme inhibitor that binds to the active site of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. It inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol, leading to reduced levels of LDL and VLDL cholesterol. Tolimidone has also been shown to reduce plasma glucose and pro-inflammatory cytokines. This drug is currently being investigated as a potential treatment for high cholesterol and diabetes. The effective dose of tolimidone is not yet known, but it has been shown in vivo that it can lower cholesterol levels by up to 60%.
