SU9516 is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling pathway. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of human colon cancer cells and the progression of bowel disease in mice. SU9516 also inhibits a number of other cancers, such as leukemia, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. In addition, it has been shown to have antiviral effects against HIV-1 and herpes simplex virus infections. The mechanism of action for this drug may be due to its ability to inhibit EGFR signaling by binding to the active site of the enzyme tyrosine kinase. SU9516 is also an inhibitor that prevents inflammatory bowel disease in mice by blocking epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling pathways. This drug has also been shown to be an effective chemotherapeutic agent for cancer cells resistant to chemotherapy drugs.
