Lonapalene inhibits the enzyme phospholipase A2 (PLA2) by binding to the hydroxyl group of arachidonic acid, which prevents arachidonic acid from being released as a substrate for PLA2. This inhibition results in an anti-inflammatory effect. Lonapalene also inhibits other enzymes such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, which are involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
