Ibafloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. The terminal half-life of ibafloxacin is about 1.5 hours and the elimination half-life is about 5 hours. Ibafloxacin has been shown to be effective against multidrug-resistant bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Acinetobacter baumannii. Ibafloxacin has also been shown to be active against Gram negative bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Proteus mirabilis.
