The fatty acid 24:0 PC is a polar, oxygenated lipid that is found in the outer layer of phosphatidylcholine. It is hydrated and has a high degree of polarity. The fatty acid 24:0 PC is also an important component of the cell membrane, where it helps maintain the integrity and fluidity of the bilayer. The fatty acid 24:0 PC plays a role in signal transduction by serving as a precursor to the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine-derived signal proteins such as sphingomyelin, which are involved in cellular proliferation and apoptosis. In addition, this fatty acid has been shown to have anticancer properties due to its ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells in culture. This process is mediated by activation of caspase-3 and -9 through oxidative stress.
