CCR5 antagonist 1 is a novel, orally active small molecule that binds to the CCR5 receptor. It has been shown to inhibit HIV-1 infection of human T cells and macrophages in vitro and reduce viral load in vivo. This drug has also been shown to possess antiviral potency against influenza virus and other viruses. The pharmacokinetic properties of this drug have been studied in rats and monkeys, with the results showing that it is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream, with a half-life of about 2 hours. This compound also inhibits chemokine production by binding to the chemokine receptor.
