It is a metabolite of mulberroside B, which is found in the bark of the mulberry tree, and acts as an agonist for metabotropic glutamate receptor. Mulberroside A has shown neuroprotective effects in vitro by inhibiting oxidative DNA damage and insulin resistance in cells. This compound also provides protection against inflammatory pain in rats and has been shown to inhibit gsh-px activities and olecranon enzymes activities. Mulberroside A has shown good pharmacokinetic properties with an oral bioavailability of about 10%.
