Description:

GV-196771a is a metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) antagonist. It blocks the action of glutamate, a neurotransmitter that activates mGluRs. GV-196771a has been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia, as well as symptoms such as anxiety, depression and Parkinson's disease. The drug is also neuroprotective and can prevent damage to neurons caused by toxins or strokes. GV-196771a binds to the mGluR5 receptor and blocks activation by glutamate. This prevents the release of other neurotransmitters that are involved in pain transmission, such as dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin and acetylcholine.
