YM 976 is a fatty acid that has been shown to have pharmacological effects on the bowel. YM 976 inhibits inflammatory bowel disease by binding to the fatty acid receptor, thereby inhibiting the production of proinflammatory mediators. This drug also has inhibitory effects on cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase and signal transduction pathways. It is also used for treating infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases because it inhibits transcription-polymerase chain reactions and inflammation. YM 976 also has hydroxyl groups that are involved in the inhibition of human macrophages, which may be related to its anti-inflammatory properties.
