Product Information
Zoniporide hydrochloride is a non-iodinated pyridine derivative that inhibits the activity of the sodium-potassium pump, which is responsible for pumping Na+ out of cells and K+ into cells. It also inhibits the reuptake of nitric oxide by the cell membrane, leading to vasodilation. Zoniporide hydrochloride may be used as a therapeutic agent in patients with ischemic injury or cardiovascular diseases. The drug has been shown to cause myocardial ischemia in rats and humans, and has been shown to have a protective effect against myocardial infarction in animals. Zoniporide hydrochloride binds to the Na+, K+, Cl-, and HCO3- exchanger on the surface of erythrocytes, inhibiting their exchange. This inhibition leads to an increase in intracellular Cl-, which causes an increase in intracellular Ca2+ levels by activating calmodulin.
