Description:5-bromo-3,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole hydrochloride is a ligand for phosphine. It is activator of peroxisomes that is used to study the role of this organelle in lipid metabolism. 5-Bromo-3,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydroindole hydrochloride has been shown to prevent arteriosclerosis and inhibit the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. It also inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol by competitively inhibiting the enzyme 3βhydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Furthermore, it can be used as a reagent in alkaline hydrolysis or as an ester to prepare alkynyl derivatives. This compound can also be used as a catalyst in transfer reactions with palladium and as a salt form.
