Product Information
5-Ethyl-2-fluorophenol (5FP) is a metabolite of the drug 5-ethyl-2,4-dioxohexahydropyrimidine and is used in the synthesis of other drugs. 5FP has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in asthma patients, as well as antioxidant properties. The metabolism of 5FP has been rationalized through a study of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of this compound. This study found that 5FP was metabolized by cytochrome P450 to form an aldehyde form, which was then oxidized by aldehyde oxidase to form an alcohol form. These forms are more hydrophobic than the parent compound and can be more easily absorbed into cells.
