Product Information
4-Methoxy-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzylamine (4MTA) is a benzoic acid derivative that has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes involved in neurotransmitter synthesis. 4MTA inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, which are enzymes involved in the synthesis of acetylcholine. This inhibition leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine at synapses, causing an increase in the release of this neurotransmitter. The increased release of acetylcholine leads to an increase in its binding to receptors on postsynaptic cells, causing a reduction in neuronal excitability. 4MTA is also used as a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer due to its ability to bind with high affinity to cholinergic neurons by desmethylation in vivo.
