(1β,2R,3α,4R)-2,4-Diphenyl-1,3-cyclobutanedicarboxylic acid 1-(1-naphthalenyl)ester is a model compound that was inactivated by extracellular esterases and fatty acids. It has been shown to have antinociceptive effects in a pain model and inhibitory effects on prostate cancer cells. This drug also inhibits uptake of fatty acids into prostate cancer cells. The structure of (1β,2R,3α,4R)-2,4-Diphenyl-1,3-cyclobutanedicarboxylic acid 1-(1-naphthalenyl)ester is similar to the endocannabinoid anandamide. Anandamide is an endocannabinoid that binds to cannabinoid receptors and mediates the release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin.
