It binds to the ligand binding domain of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and activates these ion channels by increasing the permeability of the cell membrane to Na+, K+, and Ca2+. 4-Fluoro-N-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-5-yl)benzamide has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in cells.
