It also inhibits DNA synthesis and mitochondrial function, leading to neuronal death. Transcrocetinate disodium may be used as an experimental model for radiation-induced myocardial infarcts in rats. This drug also has a number of physiological effects, including inhibition of platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction. It is not known whether transcrocetinate disodium alters crocin levels or crocetin production in vivo.
