Description:SCH79797 is a thrombin inhibitor that blocks the conversion of pro-thrombin to thrombin. SCH79797 prevents neuronal death by inhibiting the activation of the neuronal apoptosis signal pathways and blocking signals from cytosolic calcium. This drug also inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), by blocking toll-like receptor signaling pathways. SCH79797 has been shown to be effective in models of Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders and is an antagonist at basic protein sites.
