Description:E260 is a bicyclic heterocycle that has been shown to be a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, and fungi. E260 has also been shown to be effective against human pathogens such as HIV and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). E260 is structurally similar to the natural amino acid histidine and can bind to bacterial ribosomes where it inhibits protein synthesis. This drug has a high binding affinity for proteins that have an N-terminal glycine residue with a side chain of at least five carbon atoms.
