Product Information
L-Hydantoin-5-propionic acid is a mutant of L-hydantoin, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of formiminoglutamate. It has been shown to have catalytic activity as a ligand at the active site of metalloenzyme and can be used to study how metal ions affect enzyme catalysis. L-Hydantoin-5-propionic acid has also been shown to react with formamide and formiminoglutamate to form formamide and glutamate respectively. This reaction is reversible, giving rise to the need for equilibrium studies. The reaction proceeds with a half life of approximately 30 minutes at pH 7.0 and 37°C. The yield of this reaction is dependent on the concentration of both reactants and products, as well as the initial concentrations of each reactant. The reaction rate doubles when more glutamate is added to the solution and triples when more histidine is added.
