It was first synthesized in 1957 by chemical modification of the natural product quinazoline, and is used as a lead compound for the synthesis of other compounds. 2-Bromoquinolin-3-amine has shown biological activity, such as inhibition of protein synthesis in bacteria and fungi, and inhibition of DNA synthesis in human cells. It also has some antimalarial properties.
