Product Information
- 1-Acetylcyclopentanol
1-(1-Hydroxycyclopentyl)ethanone is a ligand that binds to the receptor in the olfactory epithelium. It has been shown to be an effective model system for the study of odorants and their perception. 1-(1-Hydroxycyclopentyl)ethanone is volatile and has a bitter taste. It can be used as a subspecies marker, but it is not active against Gram-positive bacteria. The racemic mixture of this ligand can be used in enantioselective synthesis by catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation. This compound also exhibits catalysis activity with camphene, which is an aromatic hydrocarbon found in turpentine oil. 1-(1-Hydroxycyclopentyl)ethanone also has chiral properties that allow it to undergo isomerisation at room temperature and pressure.
