Product Information
- Thiophene, 3,4-dichloro-
3,4-Dichlorothiophene is a quinonoid compound that is synthesized from 3,4-dichlorobenzene and hydrogen sulphide. The reaction of the two compounds with persulphate, followed by hydrolysis and silver nitrate, yields 3,4-dichlorothiophene as a yellow liquid. This product can be treated with alkanoic acid or alkylated with an alkyl halide to produce homologues. 3,4-Dichlorothiophene reacts with ammonia in the presence of sodium amide to produce a mixture of amides. The reaction can also be carried out in the presence of diazotisation and nitration to form heterocycles.
