Product Information
1,1-Dimethyl 2-ethenylcyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylate is an organocatalyst that is used for the allylation of aliphatic alcohols. It has a chiral centre and can be used to produce optically active compounds. It reacts with aliphatic aldehydes in the presence of sodium dicarbonate to form enamines, which are then ring-opened with malonates to yield dienones. This process can be used to produce vinyl ethers from alcohols and vinylcyclopropanes from acetylene. The yields are moderate and the reaction requires high temperatures (120°C).
