Product Information
Benzyl 3-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylpropanoate is a prodrug that is metabolized to the active form, benzyl 3-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylpropionate (BZMDP), by esterases. It has been shown to have pharmacological effects in animals and humans. BZMDP is a pyrazole derivative with a carbonyl group and an alkylene chain. It binds to the human liver enzyme cytochrome P450 2C8 and inhibits the metabolism of acetaminophen, thereby increasing its bioavailability. As an analgesic agent, BZMDP has been shown to be effective against postoperative pain in animal studies. BZMDP has also been shown to reduce hyperglycemia in diabetic mice through inhibition of carbohydrate metabolism at the level of glycolysis.
